The Crowley Fish Foundation (CFF) has been named a finalist for the Mammoth Lakes Chamber of Commerce Nonprofit of the year award. True to this year’s theme, “Rising Above the Peaks of Excellence,” the foundation’s vision goes beyond preserving the Crowley Lake region’s reputation as a world-class fishing destination. CFF is committed to conservation, sustainability, education and building community so future generations can protect and enjoy this incredible playground in our own backyard.
“This is such an honor, and I’m proud to be part of team that is working to protect and preserve a place our community knows and loves,” says Joe Contaldi, CFF board chair. Knowing we need to pass the torch to the younger generation, Contaldi added that CFF recently hosted a fishing adventure and fly-tying classes for our local kids to get them “hooked” on the sport. In September, special liaisons dedicated to veteran’s affairs partnered with Project Healing Waters, Long Beach Chapter so 20 veterans could spend a day on the water catching some trophy trout.
With Crowley Lake being a destination for people all over the country, and a revenue generator for the town, CFF is active in fundraising so the lake can be stocked throughout the season. However, this can only be possible if our local waters are in good health, so CFF science advisors monitor water conditions, encourage boat inspections for golden mussels prior to entering the lake, serve as activists against proposed mining activity at Hot Creek and much more.
The CFF looks forward to attending the annual Business Excellence Awards Gala and celebrating alongside fellow nominees Chamber Music Unbound and Sierra STEM on Nov. 5, 2026.
