Taking veterans fishing is a cornerstone of the work of the Crowley Fish Foundation (“CFF”). Last week, CFF partnered with Project Healing Waters, Long Beach Chapter for three days of taking twenty veterans out on the Eastern Sierra waters to fish.
CFF has welcomed Jeff and Christine Rettig onto the team as advisors and directors of veterans events, and the couple has grabbed the bull by the horns. Jeff is a veteran, and wants to give back to other veterans and help them on the water. Everyone loves fishing the Eastern Sierra, and it is important to work with those who have served our nation.
On Tuesday, September 15, CFF board member Andre Nersesian and Brendan Steinman took several vets out on Crowley Lake for some great fishing action. The next day, CFF board members Joe Contaldi, Ernie Gulley, Jarett Coons, and Hodges Glass all volunteered with the former service members. But the group didn’t just stillwater fish. Jeff Rettig worked with local guide Richard Lancaster with a half dozen anglers on the Upper Owens River on Thursday.
“This is the best event we’ve ever had!” said participant Craig Wiginton of the experience. The three days of fishing supported twenty veteran participants enjoying the very best of Eastern Sierra waters. All twenty participants reside in Southern California.

CFF plans to host additional similar events for our veterans in the future.
